Conflict is complex! Solving disputes involves imperfection!

Hello!  It has taken me some time to come to grips with the notion of having a dialogue with a world beyond my immediate line of site! I’d like to share my rationale for taking on this challenge.

Specifically, it is that it is up to us, all of us, to engage in a spirited dialogue about both issues and process. We’ll take on issues over time. But right now I’d like to open the discussion about process.  For me the primary process is an engaged  conversation – dialogue – negotiation. With that let me quote from a New York Times profile of  Prince Zeid Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein, the new United Nations high commissioner for human rights – New York Times interview , January 30, 2015.

“Everything we see in agreements across the spectrum comes from the space between where your instructions end and you as a thinking negotiator invest your own thought,”

To me that means that there are skills, techniques, and targets in any resolution seeking process but there is also, equally important, an art; permitting the intellect to join with the emotion in an imperfect dance.

More before too long!
